The Relationship Between A Dog & A Cat

Are you a dog or a cat lover? We love all animals equally no matter what shape or size.

Dogs & Cats

In most cases, if your pets are introduced at a young age they will grow up to be the best of friends. It’s all about learning to co-exist with another animal and share your space, just like we would do with any other human. They also tend to get along more when you aren’t looking because they could be all cuddled up but when you walk into the room they will jump up and walk away from each other. Dogs tend to be more accepting of a cat than a cat is of a dog. In many cases the dog will follow the lead of the cat.

No matter how good of friend’s cats and dogs are, there will always be them moments where they will have a disagreement or fall out, but it usually never lasts long.

Cat and Dog

We all want there to be harmony in the household and the best outcome would be to have everyone get along. If they are not brought into the house at the same time, there will be a level of jealousy and invasion of their territory. It is important to introduce them to each other gradually, so they have no major falling out without supervision, instead you will be there to intervene and break the tension between the sides. Distraction is a good method of breaking the tension between your pets, by introducing toys and play. Always share your attention to each equally so that one isn’t given preference over the other. Once they get used to each other’s company they tend not to be as bothered about each other’s presence.

If you already have a pet in the house for a long period of time and you are planning on introducing another dog or even a cat, trial it before you make it a permanent move.  You could stress the pets out and prevent them from accepting a new member to the family. It is also a good idea to try and make there first introduction on natural ground outside of the family home, so they don’t feel the need to protect their space and can be more curious to investigate. This will ensure your pet gets used to them being around you and them.

Do your dog and cat get along?
